Hair: DIY protein treatment

In this day and age everyone and their grandma has the perfect recipe for hair care, maintenance and growth.
There are so many products on the market that promise all kinds of things... "DO GROW, WILL GROW, PERMANENT GROW?" and in my experience 99.5% of these don't actually do what they promise.

Growing up I was blessed with an All Natural grandmother, if it wasn't from the earth/natural she very rarely used it on her hair and skin.

 Image result for grandma's remedies

She washed my hair in Aloe Vera and used things like eggs and olive oil to condition my hair.

Now, I use pretty much the same but have added a few extras for a protein treatment mix which my hair loves.

So why does your hair need protein?
To strengthen the hair shaft, add shine, improve elasticity and reduce frizz.

When should I do a protein treatment?
I like to do a protein treatments when my hair feels dry, damaged or limp, so it depends on you and your hair as to how often you do a treatment.

My protein treatment recipe*
1 egg
2 tbsp mayonnaise
1/2 tbsp of your favourite deep conditioner
1tsp honey
2 tsp argan/olive oil
2 drops of rosemary oil
2 drops of nettle oil

Mix all together, add to your pre-washed,de-tangled and sectioned hair .
Leave for 30-60 mins, rinse thoroughly, air dry, moisturise and style.
*Deep conditioner, honey and oils are optional, for a basic protein treatment use Eggs, Mayo & Olive oil.
This mix works for my hair, when it comes to natural hair care treatments you have to do what works for you, so there's a lot of trial and error.

I hope you enjoy x

Life- Mindfulness

***MINDFULNESS***

It's easy in this day and age to get so wrapped up in our busy lives that we can fail to appreciate now.
We often look back to the past or try to look ahead to the future and by doing so we can easily miss key moments in life and our lives in general.
I have recently got a few books on mindfulness and have also been to a workshop and I'm really enjoying this thought process.
I noticed how much of my daily tasks or routines I perform on auto-pilot and have started to be more aware so that I am present in my life!
It is said that paying more attention to the present, your own thoughts and feeling, you could drastically improve you mental wellbeing...Who wouldn't want to do that?
So what is Mindfulness?

"Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgementally"
http://www.getselfhelp.co.uk/mindfulness.htm

Why not take a moment every day to really focus on NOW!

What do you feel?
What can you smell?
What can you see?
Do it for a few days and pay attention to what you think and feel, do it for you...it really can't hurt!

Amazon have a great selection of books on Mindfulness.

Books- Children's

***Tis the season to be reading!***

Yes! I do know there is no specific season to be reading but you get where I am going so leave it internet trolls!? Lol

I am passionate about reading and literacy and strongly believe children (and adults) should read as much as possible.
I am not one for Christmas and all that but if you're giving gifts why not give a book...I know some children won’t appreciate it now but you never know when they will be inspired to pick up that book they received and learn something new.
Amazon  has a wide range of books and I have chosen a few on Culture and Diversity.
Check them out and teach the well J.

All available on Amazon.

Events- Art In London

***West Africa: Word, Symbol, Song at British Library***

Until

@ The British Library
96 Euston Road
London
NW1 2DB

"Delve into the history and culture of West Africa without leaving central London as the British Library presents West Africa: World, Symbol, Song.
This ambitious exhibition showcases literature, faith, politics and music from GhanaNigeriaMaliand other nations from the region. Spanning the various empires of the Middle Ages through to colonialism, resistance, independence and modern life, there is a vast range of intriguing and informative items on display.
Highlights from the archives include rare pamphlets, film, audio, textiles and manuscripts that detail everything from protest songs to the thoughts and ideas of leading West African literary figures and leaders. Of particular note is an annotated manuscript for a poem written by Africa’s first Nobel prize winner, Wole Soyinka. Littered with doodles and corrections, it contains the basis of his famous poem Idanre, a work inspired by a deep mythological experience. Also celebrate work by the internationally acclaimed musician and human rights activist, Fela Kuti.
The guest consultant for the exhibition is Dr Gus Casely-Hayford, the writer and presenter of Lost Kingdoms of Africa."

***No Colour Bar: Black British Art in Action from 1960 to 9990***

The Guildhall Art Gallery, Guildhall Yard, London EC2V 5AE
Untill 24/01/16

"Guildhall Art Gallery's upcoming exhibition is an innovative look at Black British cultural identities, heritage and creative voices - and the struggle Black British artists faced to have their voices heard - from the 1960s to the 1990s. Prominent Black artists include Eddie Chambers, Sonia Boyce and Denzil Forrester.

The show runs until January 24th 2016, and includes a multi-sensory recreation of the Walter Rodney bookshop created by renowned artist and curator Dr Michael McMillian and Dubmorphology, sound and visual specialists, that sits at the heart of the exhibition.

Influenced by the emergence of newly independent African and Caribbean states, global liberation struggles, the fight against unfair discrimination and an insistence on dignified citizenship within Britain, these artists found expression by way of ‘creation for liberation’. The exhibition will explore these struggles and celebrate their contribution through four powerful themes: ‘Elbow Room’, ‘Broad Shoulders’, ‘Clenched Fists’ and ‘Open Arms’.

The Guildhall Art Gallery is part of the City of London’s evolving ‘cultural hub’ and will be open daily providing visitors with a unique opportunity to explore the significance of Black British culture and the importance of its historical contribution to the UK."

Fashion- Party Nails

It's almost time for the work Christmas party, as well as all the other festive season shindigs, and personally I think the best thing about these are dressing up and catching jokes...laughing at and with! #SoSueMe lool

Anyway, one part of dressing up for the festive parties a lot of people forget about is their nails.... It's all well a good you have your pretty dress and shoes but then you forget the nails and you can ruin the whole outfit with chipped or mismatched nails...

So!Why not get ahead of the game this year and start looking for your party season nail colours...
These are my top three choices from the London high street and yes! You may need a chain saw to get the glitter off but soak those nails in some acetone or a good nail polish remover and it will be much easier...Or get some OPI Glitter-Off Peal off base coat.
(Got some from ASOS)

No picking off  nail polish! This will damage you nails!

Enjoy Ladies x

#Petite&Curvy- Autumn Knitwear

Getting dressed this morning, I pulled out some chunky knits to brave the cold and realised to my horror that I only have 2 Orange pieces in my knitwear collection!

#Firstworld problems...Checked my nonsense melt down at the wardrobe door and reminded myself these are not real problems...I pulled it together, thanked God for my blessings and got ready for work. SMH!

Yes...So Sorry Mr Xzibit!

On route to work I decided to see what online stores had in the form of orange or autumn knitwear and found these gorgeous three pieces and yes, I will be treating myself to the Orange jumper dress by Newlook.
It's super cute and I can already picture the outfit without having any ridiculous melt downs about clothes.
I just hop it fits these funsized curves the way I want it to...Update to follow!

Food: Lentil Soup #Yum

 Lentils!
Until I became a pescetarian, I had never tried lentils and I feel sad that I didn't try them sooner.
They are soo yummy, moreish and incredibly satisfying.

I love em and have recently tried my very own Lentil soup recipe.

Check it out!

Ingredients
Dried Lentils- soaked overnight (Grams-depends on how much you like lentils but I used 200gms
1 medium red onion
1 medium white Onion
1 carrot
1 leek
2 cloves of garlic
1 green sweet pepper
1 tbsp paprika
1tsp cayenne Pepper
1 tsp of all Purpose seasoning
1tbsp crushed Black Pepper
1 bay Leaf
1 tsp salt
1/2 glass (tumbler) of water

Method.

I boiled the lentils till they were soft.
Softed the onions, garlic and pepper with the herbs spices.
Then added all the ingredients into a large pot to boil till all veg was soft
Added the water and left to simmer for 20mins or so and let the mixture cool.
Once cooled, I added the whole lot to a blender and enjoyed!
#Yum!
