Fashion: My Pumps, My Pumps, My Pumps, My Pumps. Check It Out...

Hey ladies I'm back again with some more great buys.

My latest fashion thing is pumps, and I've found three pairs recently, all under £25.

I'll go in order of when I bought them.

The first pair are Red pumps and they've also got the highest heel of the three. I'm not sure too sure when and where I'll wear these, but they were too sexy not to pick up. They were £18.90 from Forever 21, although they had a 20% discount for O2 users at the time so I paid less...

These Tan ones are £14.99 from H&M. They also come in black and should still be in stores. They've got the lowest heel of the three, and are quite comfy to walk around in. These can be paired up with boyfriend jeans and a white tee to give a little bit of glam to an otherwise casual look.

My final and favourite pair is from Dorothy Perkins. If you know me then you'll know why they're my favourite. They're Cobalt Blue or Colbat as I prefer to say. The heel on these are sexy without being too high and are quite comfortable. Originally they were £23 but the lucky day I popped in, they were 30% off, so were something like £16.40.

Pump it up this summer. I know I intend to.

I have finished another collection of earrings inspired by ethnic beads and prints.

Testimonial
"I am loving these bead hoop drop earrings and my friends do too, they all want to know where I got them but I didn't want to share. I love the fact they're individually exclusive, which makes them extra special. They look very nice with my hair up in a high bun, down with a blow out...or with no hair at all, as my newly bald sistrin who borrowed a pair keeps telling me...I think she thinks she's keeping them.....think again girl :-)"

Price starts at £6.00.

Cool Link: Black History & HM Government Petition

Yesterday a friend of mine sent me the link for this HM Government E-Petition which needs 100,000 online signatures in order for Black History to be taught in UK Primary schools as a permanent part of the curriculum.

While I think it is a good idea that is LONG overdue, my main concern and hope is that if or when the petition is successful, mainstream school lessons will expand beyond the Transatlantic Slave Trade and The Civil Rights Movement because those subjects - while essential to Our story - are only a part of Our rich and extensive history; not all of it. Therefore it would also be a bonus IMHO if there were Black teachers with a broad knowledge about the many chapters of Our Journey from Ancient & Progressive African Civilisations to present day Scientists and Astronauts!

The deadline for this petition is 15th February 2015 so please sign it and pass it on;

We DO have Power and should use it for the causes that matter!

Books: For My Young Brothers

In this day and age young people are heavily influenced by a very wide range of mediums which isn't always a bad thing when it's positive, inspirational, or motivational but, this isn't always the case and today's young Black men need more encouragement, inspiration, motivation, love, attention and affection more than ever before.

That is why I feel it is very important to fill these fragile young minds with valuable/vital information with substance on a range of topics, from heritage, spirituality and culture to what it means to be a Man....knowledge of self is paramount in my book!

Here is a collection of books for young Black men, that make great gifts too!

Event Review: I Rhyme To See Myself Poetry Slam

Hosted by London South Bank University poetry team and ‘Uncle Errol’

On Wednesdays or Thursdays I love to go to random events in London, I call these my “mid-week mash ups", which I love because they’re a simple, fun and easy way to break up the working week and find a comfortable work-Life balance.

Thurs 20th March, South bank universities poetry team held a poetry slam at Tamesis dock on Albert Embankment, London.
Tamesis dock is a bar on a boat which I think is a really nice idea. Inside the venue is very colourful and has an interesting mix of styles, furniture and designs.

The poetry slam stage was on the lower deck which was very cosy but a little small for the event.

The bar area is on the upper deck of the boat and was not sealed off from the lower deck which made things very difficult for the performers and audience as the bar customers were not a part of the show and were very loud minus the microphone.

Regardless of the extra noise the show was really good. There were more than a few technical difficulties with the sound system but the host and performers handled it well and kept the audience engaged.
The show was hosted by ‘Uncle Errol’ who was energetic, funny and full of vigour. He performed a few poems which were very entertaining and captured the audience’s attention every time.

The first part of the show was the open mic segment. The performers which really stood out for me were Ms Lauren Deevah Kay, where she gave us her poet analogy of food and sex, and what a great combo.

A vocal spoken word duo titled ‘You & Me’ (Raggo Zulu Rebel & Asabi Hawah) performed a beautiful guitar acoustic song called “Use you”, I absolutely loved it. I was singing it all the way home. Some sensual words by Ms Open Minds…..let’s just say the temperature on the boat rose by at least 10 degrees during her poem.

Mr Uncivilised Arts graced us with his witty and thought provoking poem.
Each performer was so well received, almost made me want to get up and sing…maybe another time.

After the open mic segment came the poetry slam. Around 10 performers were judged out of 10 audience members and the top 5 were then judged by a panel.
There was a lot of energy during this part of the show; the poetry team did well with the organisation of the set, props and audience engagement.

Performers who stood out for me were Miday Sotubo, a powerful performance which really touched me, Joyce Raj a potent mix of honesty and intensity, Collette Freeman, and Mell B Nyoko who, in my eyes, was the rightful winner of the slam. This woman was on fire. I had goose bumps all throughout performance.

Her poetry was strong, enticing, powerful, stimulating and entertaining....”…not a one in a million girl, a once in a lifetime woman” she said it all and spoke right to my very core!
*clicks fingers*

I would definitely go to this event again and I will be keeping in touch with all of my favourite performers to stay informed about their upcoming shows and performances….watch this space.

All in all a great night out, I met some really talented people.
There was a really nice energy and everyone was encouraging, friendly and positive.

Well done to all the performers, Uncle Errol and all the London South Bank Uni Poetry team.

Overall rating for the night 8/10

Food: DIY Snacking

I don't know about you but I am a huge fan of snacks, tapas and nibbles but as we all know, snicker bars and walkers crisps are very unhealthy and if you're anything like me they'll make you fat and give you spots (drink water people!)

Anyway I went through a phase where I lived on graze snack boxes (as above)....delicious, nutritious treat delivered to my desk at work...at a decent price...Bliss!

As a superscrimper this got me thinking...why not make your own snacks? So I did. I went and got a variety of dried fruits, nuts, seeds and green teas from my local health food store.

My first mixture went down a treat and is very good for you....

*Whole almonds
*Pumpkin seeds
*Yogurt covered apricots

What are the health benefits in this mixture?

A great way to snack healthy and save money too :-)

Happy snacking....Shay x

Hair: Braids & Twists Maintainence

Tis the season to be braiding....tra la la la la....etc

I recently got twist braids put into my hair to give my hair a break from styling and heat damage as I used to press my natural hair far too often.

Anyway, while maintaining my new look, I found everyone and their grandma had an opinion on how best to care for your hair while in braids.After a few months of researching, trial and error I found a mixture which works great for my hair and I thought I'd share this great moisturizing mixture with you;

Ingredients

Warm/luke warm water

1 ½ tbsp leave in conditioner

2 tsps of Organic Caster or Coconut or Argan oil for moisturising, strength and shine

2 drops of Tea Tree or Lavender Oil to soothe the scalp of braid itch

½ cap of Apple Cider Vinegar to clarify and add shine

· Ylang Ylang Oil for scent

My Basic Hair Tools

Hair Clips to hold hair out of the way when working in sections...

Applicator bottle used this for my favourite oil mix

Hair scarf for Sleeping, setting etc

Spray Bottles for my braid mix. One for my water, the other for my aloe vera mix

My Method...

I section my braids into 6 workable sections, spray the mixture on my hair and scalp then rub the mixture in with the pads of my finger tips. Once each section is done I leave the hair to dry in a cotton t-shirt (I don't use towels) and when dry, oil my hair and scalp using my applicator bottle.

This method really works for me, leaving my hair is cleansed, moisturised and shiny.

I hope you like it but also try variations and see which works best for you!

My hair is 100% natural and I do not like to soak it under a tap so that it gets drenched in water and takes hours to dry.

What I prefer to do is a cleansing spritz every few days and work the mixture into the scalp with the pads of my finger tips for optimal penetration and cleansing.

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way shape or form a expert of hair care or a specialist!!!

I do what works best for me.....
