TV: 'Ian Wright - Nothing To Something'

While watching my Gunner's crash out of the Champion's League last night (yet again) I saw the promo for this documentary which aired at 10pm on ITV 4.

Growing up in the 90's the most I knew about Ian Wright was that; A) He was my Dad's favorite player
B) He was considered a late start
 C) One of the Best in English football

I never knew anything about his personal life prior and so, to hear him go into great depth (all in under 30 minutes!) about his mother being an alcoholic, his father abandoning the family/sporadically keeping in touch and then leaving him to wait for 7 hours for some trousers, on top of his step father having such disdain for him, that even in a small one bedroom flat he was not allowed to watch Match Of The Day on the only TV they had, was definitely an eye opener to say the very least.

To watch a 50 year old man with all his talent, acclaim and success continuously break down crying and admit that even with therapy it's still hard to understand certain things in his childhood, only reaffirmed to me that people like himself who achieve their dreams without the support and encouragement of their 'parents', really owe them nothing!

In case you missed it, catch it on ITV Player!
