Culture: Bleaching Black Culture Documentary

'Black History Studies' hosted a screening of 'Bleaching Black Culture' last night at Ritzy cinema, UK.

I really enjoyed the film but it is so sad that this still an issue, will there ever be change?
I try to remain positive about the future of black culture but what actions are being taken? What are the solutions?
What can we do now?
How do we re-connect the black community?

Personally, I think this should have been a part of the film, maybe it will be in part two..
I feel black people need to do more as a community, no one is disputing that black culture has been used, abused, misrepresented, misunderstood and blatantly disrespected by various other cultures since...well forever!

BUT black people really need to come together, support each other and educate each other more.
How do we become self-sufficient, how do we reclaim our culture, how do we improve black economics?

That is why I love 'Black History Studies' http://www.blackhistorystudies.com/ and all they have done and continue to do for the black community, especially in the UK.
Thanks to them, people are DOING rather than complaining but there is so much more to be done, there is still a long way to go.

A young man made a valid comment during the discussion after the screening... "It's not about instant gratification, it may be about us doing the work now for the future, for our grandchildren so we break the cycle of  ignorance and detachment"
I agree with this, the work we do now will probably not benefit us but will definitely have a positive influence on the future of our culture...If we do the work!

Great film 4/5* check it out!

About The Film

From the stolen legacy of African civilisation to the shaping of American and global trends, Bleaching Black Culture examines the impact African Americans have on art, culture, technology and more. We pose thought provoking questions concerning black cultural co-opting that will yield to conversations and possible answers about its outcome on our future.

Fashion: Colour matching lookbook

While working with a new client I discovered a colour-match that I really love...No it's probably not NEW but it's new to me.

***Rose Gold, Pastel pink and Burgundy***

All from the red colour pallet, I think the colours compliment each other really well. So, I decided to do a lookbook....A classic black long sleeve midi dress with burgundy shoes, print scarf and handbag with pastel pink nails and lipstick and rose gold jewellery #Loveit!
A great sultry look for various occasions.

I hope you like it x

Fashion: Rose Gold Shoes

Rose Gold is currently one of my new favourite colours, along with copper and teal but you full and well know Orange is my Number1.  On a recent shopping trip, I came across these gorgeous rose gold court shoes by ASOS (Link below) and thought of a cute winter look for the office/business meetings or evening cocktails with friends.

Starting with the shoes...of course, I added a classic roll neck jumper in cream and added a sexy burgundy midi skirt in leather which I think adds a little edge to the look.
I finished off the look with a simple rose gold necklace and nude tote bag.

For the hair and make up , I would go for a messy side braid, like the beautiful Angela Simmons and add a nice matte deep red lipstick.
I have chosen Rimmell #107 Lasting finish Matte By Kate Moss

Fashion: People's Choice Awards 2016

Last night was the 42nd People's Choice Awards #PCAs.
From what I could see, from my poorly connected live stream, it looked like an amazing evening.
Everyone looked lovely  but three looks really stood out for me...

My Top 3 #PCAs red carpet looks..

Jerrika Hinto...I love her cool and casual look with the classic updo. The off-white maxi dress and bib necklace combo really works for Jerrika.

Kat Graham... I love this dress, the different prints and textures work really well and Kat really wears it well. I also love how Kat has kept the hair and make up simple and clean as to not over complicate the overall look.

Ashley Benson... This is definitely my kind of dress. Not too short, not to fitted and with a little added bling on the shoulder...#Loveit! The hair, shoes and accessories all work really well.

What were your favourite looks on the night?

I have always loved a good jacket potato but since I cut down on eating white foods a few years, it really never occurred to me to try my favourite jacket potato recipes with sweet potato!

So...why sweet potato?
Well, not only does it taste great however you cook it but it's just as versatile as the humble spud and is said to be really good for you!

Simple baking instructions.

*Stab with a fork all over
*Wrap in foil
Bake for 30-45mins (depending on how hard or soft you want your sweet potato)
Add your choice of filling.

#Petite & Curvy-Dress Hunt

Curvy Fun-sized
Over the festive season I had a number of events to attend.
A few of these were quite formal and I found it really hard to find a dress to suit my shape & height which didn't age me, thot me or drown me.

As always the petite ranges in my go to stores & website really let me down. They are definitely not suited to the curvy fun-sized lady.
For some reason most of these places feel petite means small in width and height....WRONG!!!
Some of us fun-sized divas have curves, breasts and booty...Go figure!

Anyway, in total I bought 9 dresses and only two of those made the final cut.
I was surprised at the final two stores as I usually would have usually walked past them for no particular reason other than I was so used to my go to stores, I was adamant they would have something for me.
#provenwrong!

After ordering, trying on and burning some serious calories in changing rooms (why do they never have air-con) I ended up in Debenhams and found both my final cut dresses!

Runner Up!
WallisBLACK SEQUIN CAPE SLEEVE TUNIC DRESS-£40.00 (sale)
It really doesn't look like much on the model but on me...with the curves and all. It was really nice!
The only reason I didn't choose this one was, it was a little clingy on the booty area and I wanted bigger size which wasn't available.

Health: Top 3 Detox drinks

***My Top 3 Detox Drinks***

It's that time again...the new year, new me...right?
WRONG!

Of course every year is a chance to start anew but so is everyday...
Personally, I need a detox from all the luscious sweets and treats of the festivities. I went to town at every dinner, lunch and party and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Now, I am back to being healthier and getting fitter.

To do this I have revisited some of my favourite tried and tested detox drinks to help cleanse my body of all the naughty food and drinks I have consumed over the past month or so.

Drink 1: How Water and Lemon

Drink 2: Lemon, Cucumber and Mint Water

Drink 3: Green tea (Various flavours)

Enjoy & a Happy & Blessed 2016 x
