Personally I have never been into watching the Oscar's due to the lack of diversity in regards to nominees and recipients, so like clockwork I skipped the televising of this year's ceremony (seeing as the not so subtle rule of 'one at a time' is still at play with Idris Elba, Naomi Harris and Forest Whitaker being snubbed for their performances in 'Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom' and 'The Butler' respectively) but Congratulations are in order for the Cast and Crew of '12 Years' given that for the first time in 86 years, a (Black) Movie, Written and Directed by a Black Film-maker won the Oscar's for Best Picture and Best Screenplay, while the Beautiful Luptia Nyong'o deservingly scooped Best Supporting Actress (You KEEP Going Girl!)
The movie also won 5 2014 Film Independent Awards in California yesterday for Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Feature.
Regardless of the media politics, it is another part of Our story that needed to be told and is worthy of all Accolades received...
