Result!
The saying ‘Actions Speak Louder Than Words’ rang very true
for the Barbican yesterday evening, when they decided to go ahead with hosting
the tasteless Brett Bailey Exhibition, despite the petition created by SaraMyers being drawn up well in advance. I think it’s a good thing they
underestimated the lengths of how far those against it would go, because the
Community has proven yet again, that once bonded together as a strong
collective, We are more than capable of attaining
the result We want.
In regards to the exhibit itself, the bottom line is that when
a descendant of colonists has taken it upon himself to tell the most sensitive stories
of those colonized while reaping a healthy earning, then it remains a case of somebody
on the outside making a profit off of another people’s misery. That said, each
ethnic group should retain the right to re-enact the most sensitive parts of their history,
if and when they see fit.
